Steps

  1. Record the full address, postcode, room or unit details and accommodation out-of-hours contact.
  2. Save general university, international-student, security and emergency-support routes.
  3. Save GP and NHS 111 details and understand when to use 999 or non-emergency police contact.
  4. Use the bank’s official app, card or website to save card-loss and account-freezing routes.
  5. Include at least one trusted person in the UK who knows the student’s address.
  6. Keep a copy offline, in secure cloud storage and with family without publicly sharing sensitive details.
  7. Update after moving, changing number, changing GP or at the start of each term.

Common pitfalls

  • Keeping contacts only in chat history.
  • Saving names without numbers, roles or expected help.
  • Using a bank number from an advert or unfamiliar message.
  • Not updating after a move or number change.
